The further south out on Öland you travel, the more wonderful the expanses become. Stop and be impressed by the southern cape, where land meets endless sea. From the edge of the castle that runs along the island, you have a wonderful view of Kalmarsund. The barren nature, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an interesting starting point for extensive walks. On the contrary, are it rustling pine tops and moss-covered tufts that attract you? The Böda forest in the north fascinates many and here hiking trails coexist with old tractor roads. The vast Böda bay with chalk-white sand and turquoise shimmering sea is beautiful so it suggests.

World Heritage, southern Öland's agricultural landscape

From Karlevi in the west to Gårdby in the east and then all the way south stretches a beautiful landscape and a unique cultural area. This area was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The reason is that Södra Öland's agricultural landscape is fundamentally different from other places on earth. Partly because the limestone bedrock, the mild climate and the island's geographical location have resulted in unique conditions for life on the island. But also because of the islanders' millennial influence on the countryside, ever since the Stone Age.

Love Öland with care

It is a privilege that we get the opportunity to take part in the changing nature on Öland and get close to it, even if it is protected nature. But with freedom also comes responsibility. The nature on Öland is fragile and many areas are valuable for the ecosystem. That is why we love Öland in a careful way so that we can continue to enjoy unique nature experiences during the four seasons.

Thanks to the right of public access, we can move freely in Swedish nature. But what does the right of public access mean, what can you do and what do you have to think about? Read more about it here.

Responsibly & with care
