Enjoy the sunset

Few experiences surpass taking part in a clear and colorful sunset on Öland. The experience is so nice that many people travel to Öland just to see the sun slowly set. The island offers many nice places where you can enjoy the sunset and at the same time look out over Kalmar Sound.

We asked our followers on Öland's official Facebook page where they enjoy the sunset best and we received many tips. We list some of the favorites below from north to south. Maybe you'll get tips on where to enjoy the magical sunset night after night! And of course, there are many more places to enjoy the sunset than the ones we have recommended here!

Neptuni åkrar

On the Neptuni åkrar, just north of Byxelkrok, the pebble fields spread out and together with the almost completely vegetation-free beach embankments, a magical light is created at sunset.

Byrums raukar

Byrum's raukar are a wonderful place with peculiar rock formations that also offer a view of Kalmar Sound and the mythical island, Blå Jungfrun. With a sunset in the distance, the place becomes irresistible.

Stenkusten

Along Öland's stenkusten, we get to take part in views that are breathtaking and a sunset that can be described as magical. Travel along the entire stone coast or stop in one of the villages and soak up a fairytale experience.

Köpingsvik

In Köpingsvik there is a cliff section, Köpings Klint, which offers a fantastic view of Köpingsvik and the sea, if you turn around you will instead take part in flowering pastures and alvar lands.

From Borgholm and southwards there are many nice views along the 136. Stop at Glömminge or Eriksöre rest area and enjoy Öland's agricultural landscape and a glittering strait with the majestic bridge in the background.

Sandbergen

In Sanbergen, west of Stora Frö, the edge of the castle is slightly higher, which gives you a good view of the sound. There are stairs that take you down to the water if you want to take a dip in the sea while the sun slowly sets.

Alexander Hall

Stora Alvaret

Wherever you are on the Stora Alvaret, we promise that the sunset will be magical. The flat and barren landscape lets the last rays of sunshine of the day on the grazing animals and through the low juniper bushes.

Albrunna

With the sea so close, there is a calm in Albrunna on southern Öland. Stop at Albrunna rest area and set up your picnic next to the mill and enjoy the last meal of the day with an unbeatable view.
