Day trip - Meet Öland's nature, culture and history

A suggestion for a day trip to experience Öland's nature, culture and history. The trip is about 90 km long and you will have the opportunity to visit Öland's Museum Himmelsberga, Capellagården and Stora Alvaret.

Öland Museum Himmelsberga:
Öland's Museum Himmelsberga consists of a double terraced village, which means that on both sides of the small village street there are barns and that the dwelling house is located further into the surrounding farms. In the farms there are houses and environments from the 1700s to the early 1900s, with furnishings and equipment that belonged to life in the Öland countryside. In the pastures, native breed animals graze and in the meadow hay farming is conducted. In the orchards and in gardens, older cultivated plants grow. For interested groups, specially targeted guided tours can be given with a focus on, for example, cultivation, agriculture or different times gardens and plants.

Price Himmelsberga - Gruppentré 60 SEK per person, guided tour 500 SEK per group. Coffee basket 70 SEK (Coffee/tea and bun, soft and hard cake). Lunch 100 SEK (pie, salad, bread and drinks).

Capellgården:
In the World Heritage Site of Southern Öland, Capellagården is located in the township of Vickleby. Just over 50 years ago, furniture designer and educator Carl Malmsten founded a school for creative work here. Today, Capellagården with its beautiful houses, gardens and cultural environment is a popular destination. Here you can wander around the various garden rooms and cultivations. The students' graduation exhibition and shops are open all summer. You can book a guided tour of Capellagården where we tell you about Carl Malmsten and the school as well as about the history of the place.

Price Capellagården - Capellagården offers coffee and cakes/sandwiches for SEK 60 per person and lunch for SEK 120. Guided tours cost SEK 65 per person. If you want to visit the garden on your own, it costs SEK 10 per person for bus groups.

The Great Alvar:
The suggested route is from the Öland Bridge north to Glömminge and there east to Himmelsberga. From Himmelsberga the east side south to Stenåsa where you turn west straight over Stora Alvaret. In the middle of that stretch there is a rest area with bus parking, information boards about nature and the World Heritage Site South Öland's Agricultural Landscape and toilets.
In Resmo you drive north to the village of Vickleby and Capellagården. From there it is just over a mile to the Öland bridge. Along the way (which of course can be taken in the second order) there are sights and stops such as the mills in Störlinge, the Nature Bookstore in Stenåsa and Mysinge burial ground. We are happy to help advise you on arrangements for the entire trip, and good stops along your intended itinerary.
